Sitting on the Corner watching all the cars go by

Mogwai Coffee

On the Eastside I’m inside                                                                                                         licking foam and looking morning in the face                                                                                                  through tinted

Outside

Mustangs, Chargers, Bears
twenty-somethings, middle agers, working class                                                                    slow roll by
curling order and pickup lines
GMC trucks, Oregon ducks
Idle status
somehow they’re all the same
demanding buzz for green bucks
supplying Coffee profit

Arizona Cardinal Addictions                                                                                                              objectified in infinite sidewind
Siren windchime calling
Starbucks Fine
Even kind are we, the caffeine majority
following Roberta’s Rules to office cubicles
no fools to Gratitude in this Bean School

Needs Wants Securities
I slide the sleeve and hold the cardboard moment
smiling full beam warmth
Mocha whip cream streams
fill a willing heart space
Mmmm….seems I’m leveling in swirls of cinnamon
Sin I’m in…Again again
streaming like groundhog day
a repeated curse and blessedness

Can’t help but see So much of human kindness
gone
to phones in hands
to waiting
eyes averted
thoughts kept in, un-worded,                                                                                                                  synapsis working overtime at nothing really
making thumbstrokes most important
toward the “feel good.”

If not for this technology
we might be gifting Love and touch
Not so much stuff
Subscribing to a lie
that buying gives us more our”true” self
Ha! No.

Then as if cued… this shelf elf self, like all the other Zombies
reaches the same pseudo foxtail
peels the terry anklette sock I like to call a phone case
as if a blessed pack of cigarettes

I get another instant fix while swigging coffee                                                                     Button pound.
“How Can I help you?” rings my precious Siri mogwai.

“Siri, Locate Happiness.”
Predictably she promises and obeys.

“Searching ‘Locate Happiness.'”
“Here’s what I’ve found,”

I scan the hit list and among the three
a watermellon stand not far from Grand.
Garcia’s Family Happiness.

Somehow I understand my Gremlin unreliable
because she’s given someone elses answer to me
in musica and Food City

but,
“what if?”

I button clear and swipe to home screen.
The Siren’s smiling chanting payment aps.
I realize what I asked of Siri is just…

Tapped out Ridiculous!

Really?! (You know you’ve done this silly search thing!)

What could I honestly expect
from fish that swim in coffee and climb trees,
from artificial life form counseling?

I feel my inner compass trembling  indecision
I set the ticking tourette’s syndrome blinker
Accelerate the loaner car and merge the 202
Commence in circling

cuz in an hour or two,

I may be thumping mellons and chugging desert heat
Garcia Happy Family fruit stand sampling,                                                                                somewhere on the Westside
sitting on a corner Watching all the cars go by

somewhere lost in Superstition
drinking iced tea
and trying not to get the cellphone sweaty.

About hrobertson2013

“Each man ( and mermaid) will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land”. Isa 32:2 NIV Warning: The author of this blog is not an ordinary individual. Even Mermaids need a rest from all that's real and grown up. Welcome to the wonder of blog. Come be audience to all that's wet and wild in her stories, poems and thoughts. Instructor by day, super hero by night, and mystical mermaid by summer. Whenever she has the fortune of diving into a pond, reservoir, or mountain waterfall, you'll find her there swimming, and singing songs of life.
